Micro vs macro dosing
Probably one of my most frequent questions asked is what’s the difference between microdosing and macrodosing. Whether it’s the benefits, what you may experience and what is recommended.
Microdosing and macrodosing refer to two different approaches to consuming this plant medicine, each with its own purpose and effects:
Microdosing: This involves taking very small, sub-perceptual doses typically every few days. A microdose is usually around 1/10th to 1/20th of a typical recreational dose, often in the range of 0.1 to 0.3 grams of dried mushrooms. The goal of m!crodosing is not to induce a psychedelic trip but rather to experience subtle benefits, such as increased focus, creativity, improved mood, and enhanced problem-solving abilities. Many people find that m!crodosing allows them to function normally while experiencing subtle cognitive and emotional enhancements.
Macrodosing: This involves taking a larger, full dose of a psychedelic substance to induce a more profound and often fully psychedelic experience. A macrodose of plant medicine involves taking an amount that would typically result in perceptual alterations, profound shifts in consciousness, and intense visual and emotional experiences. This dose can vary widely depending on individual tolerance and mushroom potency but may range from around 1 to 5 grams of dried mushrooms or more. The purpose of macrodosing is often for introspection, spiritual exploration, therapeutic experiences, or profound personal insights.
Simply put, while microdosing is more subtle and aims to integrate the benefits of psychedelics into everyday life without significant alterations to perception, macrodosing is intended for deeper and more immersive experiences that can lead to significant shifts in consciousness and perspective.
Recommending what dose is right for you is when I recommend connecting with someone like myself to dive more into what you are looking for out of this plant medicine.
My journey I started with macrodosing which helped my healing guidance deeper and stronger (in my opinion). It allowed me to fully embrace the medicine and show me what lessons I needed to have, then to work outside of my experience to integrate.
I now microdose a few times a week. Recently I’ve noticed more articles and discussions on microdosing. There are many different theories and cycles you can choose meaning how often and how much, if microdosing is something you find is calling to you. All of which we can discuss separately and allow some self discovery on exactly your goals and how it fits into your routine and lifestyle.
Keep in mind if you are on any SSRI, SSNRI and other mood stabilizing medications, they may interfere with psilocybin. Also if you have a family history of schizophrenia or personal diagnosis to discuss with your personal health care provider. Please consult your doctor before any use.
